The patented Intelligent Coring System ICS® is a modular, fully instrumented core drilling assembly. The system features high-performance electrical connections, power generation, data processing and storage, and two-way data communication to surface. 


This solution solves a number of challenges that have plagued traditional coring operations for years:

  • Provides subsurface information in real time
  • Reduces the time lag between drilling a formation and receiving downhole logging data
  • Minimizes time-consuming round trips to change between equipment, since no specialty drillpipe needs to be swapped out and no wireline unit is required
  • Accommodates core laboratory POOH without the risk of stuck pipe

The logging-while-coring LWC® module provides essential real-time logging information as the core enters the core barrel. This helps drillers and geologists optimize the coring process by evaluating the core in real time. The module provides gamma ray, resistivity, temperature, vibration, inclination, and inner barrel stall detection measurements.

The CoDril module allows the operator to switch between the coring and drilling modes in real time. If a core is not required from a particular interval, the tool can be set to full-diameter drilling to avoid filling up the core barrel. This allows the customer to reduce and/or eliminate trips to change between coring and drilling equipment.
